Home-based arts and crafts sessions

Why home-based? Because sometimes it can be tiring to drive across town to reach a children’s activity, or perhaps you have a child that thrives in smaller groups or familiar environments. But you can add your own reason to this!

I will come to your house, provide all the art materials, a waterproof tablecloth and aprons, and make sure everything is tidied up by the end of the session. Your children will have a nourishing off-screen activity which benefits them in so many ways, while you will have a couple of hours to use however you please, and they won’t even be interrupted by travel time!

All I need is a table or some floor space. We may also go outside to the garden if possible. I will provide folders to store most of the work in, so it will not add clutter to your space.

Some of the possible activities include drawing, painting (tempera, acrylics, gouache, watercolour), collage, printmaking, clay modelling, construction, and photography! I will make a tailored lesson plan for each session.

I like to create a judgement-free space for children and young people to decompress and experiment with different materials, textures, and techniques. I feel like there is such an increasing pressure to achieve in every aspect of young people's lives, and I believe spaces in which they are free to just have fun, be themselves, and make mistakes are becoming increasingly important for their wellbeing.

COST

The price is per hour with £45/hr for 2 children and £5/hr for each additional child.

The first session is discounted at £35/hr.

Split the cost by inviting your child’s friends, neighbourhood kids, or family to participate! Similarly to how a nanny share works.

[This is inclusive of all art materials and protective equipment. It also takes into consideration preparation time, travel arrangements, ongoing training, and is based on the rates of pay advised by the Scottish Artists Union of which I am a member]

FAQs

  • The sessions can be 1hr, 1hr and a half, 2hrs, or 2hrs and a half long, depending on your preference.

  • It is up to you to decide how these will fit in your life. You can have weekly or bi-weekly sessions, have them every two weeks, monthly, or even just a one off.

  • 6-16 (groups of people within similar age range are ideal, but it can be worked out for individual cases). Any activity will of course be adapted to the age and skill level of the child. One of the advantages of these kind of classes is that everything is based on the individual person's needs rather than trying to cater to a varied group of unrelated people.

  • After school during term time, flexible timings during holidays. Flexible arrangements for home educated children as well.

  • I operate in the City of Edinburgh and will be able to reach you as long as you live within a 20 min walk from any bus stop. I will consider reaching somewhere a little further away on a case to case basis. Please don’t hesitate to enquire.

Consultation Chat

Before the first session, we will have a chat so you can ask me any questions you may have and tell me about the interests of your child/children. Please feel welcome to invite your child to participate in this. I will tell you what kind of activities I offer so you have the option to voice your preferences and make any special requests.

For example, if your child loves Minecraft I can include some related activities (I love Minecraft myself so I would definitely be a good chat); or you might want me to either focus on one medium, or have as much variation as possible etc. I will do my best to accommodate any requests.

If you have no preferences, that’s okay too! I will organise the sessions as I best see fit.

This chat can be done by phone call, video call, WhatsApp or text if you prefer.
